About J & C. G. Bolinder Mekaniska Verkstad AB
The brothers Jean Bolinder (1813-1899) and Carl Gerhard Bolinder (1818-1892) founded the company "J. & C. G. Bolinder's Mechanical Workshop" in Stockholm in 1844. They were early in manufacturing steam engines, but had also opened their eyes to internal combustion engines. The year was 1890 when work began on an internal combustion engine (also called an explosion engine). As early as 1893, they had a four-stroke engine ready, which ran on kerosene. The engine had been designed by Jonas Weyland and was unfortunately not a success. Instead, the engineer Erik Rundlöf's patent was used, the year was 1902. Rundlöf had instead constructed a two-stroke ignition ball engine. The success was not expected. During the 20s, Bolinders had almost 80% of the world market. Largely due to the durable engines with low fuel consumption.
